It is well acknowledged that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies may be addictive. As a result, as with any substance that causes many people to get addicted, excessive use can be harmful to mental health.

For example, losing enormous quantities of money unexpectedly and feeling helpless might undoubtedly increase stress and negatively impact your self-esteem. Worse, it might seriously affect your perspective on life.

To cope with these issues, people may resort to alternate addictive drugs. So begins a pattern that can lead to addiction, anxiety, and despair, among other negative outcomes.

Rehab clinics that treat bitcoin addiction are popping up all over the world, catering to individuals suffering from crypto fatigue and other associated "illness."

Luxury Bitcoin Addiction Treatment Center in Spain

A large rehabilitation center is rising amid the expanding number of establishments offering treatment for crypto addiction on the Spanish island of Majorca.

According to a BBC article, The Balance rehab clinic provides a four-week therapy to address this sort of "illness."

Addiction to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies refers to the irrational desire to continue trading in these sorts of digital assets despite the negative repercussions on one's health and money.

This type of addiction is behavioral in nature. This implies that similar to substance abuse or gambling addiction, a person develops a dependency on a set of acts that produce dopamine.

The Zurich-based 'The Balance', represents itself as a "safe zone fostering health and fulfillment."

According to the BBC, the Swiss-based wellness center treats burnout, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and eating disorders.

Not For The "Shallow-Pocketed"

However, the intervention is prohibitively expensive, costing well over $75,000 in all. This package includes luxuries like full-body massages, bike rides, and yoga in a private villa with a chef and butler.

"Don," who works for a corporation that processes central bank digital currency (CBDC) transactions, used to trade cryptocurrencies for up to $200,000 each week.

He encountered a "downward spiral" in the middle of 2022 and opted to seek "refuge" at the expensive Spanish treatment clinic where he claimed to have been "weaned" off crypto, according to the BBC.

According to the Zurich-based treatment facility Paracelsus Recovery, cryptocurrencies are addictive because they release significant amounts of feel-good neurotransmitters in the brain.

On the other hand, Diamond Rehabilitation, a wellness facility established in Thailand and running since 2019, has added bitcoin addiction rehab and treatment services to its range of therapies.

Castle Craig Hospital, a Scottish addiction rehabilitation center that has treated "high-adrenaline" cryptocurrency traders since 2018, has treated over 100 persons with "hazardous" cryptocurrency concerns.
