MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares sans Japan was up 0.3% for its 2nd straight day of gainers. It went as high as 697.01, a mark last seen on 18 March.
Australian shares Wednesday closed at their highest in over a yr, extending gains for the 4th session running.
The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.61% or 6,928.0 at the close of trade, its highest close since 24 February 2020. New Zealand’s benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index rose 0.7% to finish the session at 12,487.59.
Japanese shares finished higher Wednesday. The benchmark Nikkei share average ended up 0.12% at 29,730.79, while the broader TOPIX rose 0.67% to finish at 1,967.43
China’s main equity gauges fell Wednesday with consumer firms dragging the market lower, as investors continued to worry that strong economic data could lead to possible policy tightening.
At the close, the Shanghai Composite index was down 0.1% to 3,479.63. The blue-chip CSI300 index was down 0.71% on the day.
