Godzilla vs. Kong has roared past $390-M at the global box office to become the Top-grossing Hollywood movie of the VirusCasedemic.

In the US, the 4th installment in Legendary’s MonsterVerse passed up Tenet‘s entire run 2 weekends ago. GvK has the advantage of being the 1st movie to open after cinemas in New York and Los Angeles began reopening.

The film’s performance has been a boost for the hammered film and exhibition business and underscored the pent-up demand among moviegoers to return to the theater.

Imax has contributed $28.4-M overseas, or 9% of the entire foreign haul.

Warner’s also reported foreign numbers Sunday for video game adaptation Mortal Kombat, which does not open in North America until March 23. The pic grossed $5.7-M for the weekend from 28 markets for an early, 2-wk tally of $19.2-M.

Elsewhere in North America

Bob Odenkirk’s action pic Nobody (Universal) ended Sunday with a domestic total of $19.1-M and $34.5-M globally after coming in #2 for the session with $2.5-M in North America.

Screen Gems’ The Unholy finished in 3rd place with $2.1-M for a domestic take of $9.6-M, followed by Raya and the Last Dragon (Disney) with $1.9-M for a domestic total of $37.7-M. Tom & Jerry (Warners) rounded out the Top 5 with $1.1-M for a domestic take of $42.6-M

In recent days, theaters operators were not pleased when Paramount announced it is moving Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequel from 2 July to Thanksgiving, since it needs big, all-audience tentpoles to lure back as many moviegoers as possible.

Los Angeles is the largest moviegoing market in the country, and is #1 on the list of Top-grossing markets on any given weekend.

Pacific Theatres and ArcLight Cinemas, which includes the Cinerama Dome have announced that they will not reopen period.

Have some fun, see a movie this week, Keep the Faith!
