Hong Kong stocks fell Friday to post wkly losses after Beijing widened crackdown on fintech companies as financial watchdogs might order them to strengthen compliance with regulations.
The Hang Seng index fell 2% to 28,724.88, while the China Enterprises Index lost 2% to 10,825.25.
China stocks fell Friday to close the wk lower as data showed the country’s factory activity growth slowed in April.
The blue-chip CSI300 index fell 0.8% to 5,123.49, while the Shanghai Composite Index ended down 0.8% to 3,446.86.
On the wk, CSI300 was off 0.2%, while SSEC dropped 0.8%.
Japanese shares ended lower Friday, weighed down by technology firms’ disappointing outlook hit investor sentiment.
The Nikkei 225 Index fell 0.83% to 28,812.63, the broader TOPIX slipped 0.57% to 1,898.24.
Australian shares fell Friday. The S&P/ASX 200 index dropped 0.6% to 7,042.1, in New Zealand, the benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index fell 0.08% to 12,704.7.
