OpenAI is Growing Fast $MSFT

By Shayne Heffernan2 min read

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has unveiled a series of incentives to attract developers, including reduced prices and customizable AI "agents" designed to assist with a wide range of tasks, from offering laundry advice to aiding in contract negotiations.

The debate surrounding the potential benefits and risks of generative AI has been at the forefront of tech discussions ever since the high-profile launch of ChatGPT a year ago. During a recent gathering in San Francisco, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared the company's vision, stating, "We will be able to do more, to create more, and to have more... As intelligence is integrated everywhere, we will all have superpowers on demand."

OpenAI reports that over 2 million developers are actively building on its platform, with more than 100 million people using ChatGPT weekly.

Sam Altman commented on the launch of ChatGPT, noting that it went well and effectively ignited a race in AI, with tech giants like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Meta competing in the field.

In light of growing concerns about AI's potential risks, including its use in bioweapons, misinformation, and other threats, President Joe Biden issued an executive order aimed at regulating artificial intelligence to manage these potential risks.

OpenAI's announcement includes the introduction of a "Turbo" version of its flagship software, along with reduced pricing. The company is also making it possible for users to create custom "agents" or "GPTs" tailored to specific tasks, with no coding required. These tasks can include providing business negotiation advice, offering laundry stain removal tips, assisting with homework, or providing tech support.

OpenAI will soon introduce a GPT "store," and developers will have the opportunity to earn money based on the usage of their GPTs. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed enthusiasm for OpenAI's developments, highlighting the collaboration between the two companies.

OpenAI's recent moves are expected to simplify the integration of conversational AI interfaces into various applications, potentially making this technology more accessible to a wider range of companies.

As AI continues to advance, OpenAI aims to deliver powerful digital solutions while emphasizing the importance of ethical development and usage to ensure the technology benefits society.

AI is the Neat Handwriting of the Illiterate

A model in the hands of someone who has read the filing and walked the plant is a clerk. The same model, speaking for someone who has done neither, is a disguise. On AI slop, phantom citations and factslop, why finish stopped being evidence of work, and the containment layer KXCO built so a machine cannot speak as the institution until a source is attached.

Worthship: Do Not Conform to the Age

Worthship is the older English word for worship, and it means to ascribe worth. Bishop Robert Barron preached Romans 12 on 30 August. This essay follows the text into the prison letters, and puts two questions to a graph: do the four readings of that Sunday agree, and was Paul free or in chains when he wrote about despair?

The Truth in All Its Ugliness Must Survive

A majority vote does not determine the truth. Consensus is a mood, gossip is a sport, and a model will write the pretty version for free. Why the ugly number has to survive, why a record beats a dashboard, and what KXCO was built to keep standing when the room changes its mind.

Don't Be the Best, Be the Only: Winning in an AI World

AI is repricing competence downward. What it cannot reproduce is a life. The case for remaining non-fungible, why friction still produces the best ideas, and what it means to build AI systems that keep the human intellect in them.
