US in Talks for a Coming Trump, Putin Summit
Friday it was learned that the White House is planning a coming Summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman has been in Washington to help arrange a meeting between the 2 world leaders. The possible coming meeting is in the early stages of planning, and a date and location are yet to be determined.
“This has been an ongoing project of Ambassador Huntsman to get a formal meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump,” the official said.
Topics for discussion could include Syria, Ukraine and nuclear-arms control.
Presidents Trump and Putin already met twice in Y 2017 at the Group of 20 Summit in Hamburg and a November Summit in Vietnam.
The official said the Russia Summit would “be focused on specifics not grand bargaining,” adding, “Those things need to be negotiated.”
While officials are currently working on the planned Summit this month between President Trump and NKorea’s Chairman Kim Jong Un, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was in Pyongyang for a visit. FM Lavrov relayed President Putin’s “warmest regards and best wishes” for Chairman Kim’s “big endeavors” on the Korean Peninsula.
President Trump is focused, and is making it happen!
Have a terrific weekend.
