US Senator Tom Cotton, (R-Ak), revealed he had suggested to President Donald Trump months ago that the US consider buying Greenland.
Senator Cotton said he even met with the Danish Ambassador to talk about a potential sale.
His comments came during a luncheon in Arkansas Wednesday and were detailed in a story by Talk Business & Politics. He cited Greenland’s untold “economic potential” and noted the island is “vital to our national security.”
Senator Cotton said the purchase of Greenland would make a lot of sense for the USA
“I can reveal to you that several months ago, I met with the Danish Ambassador and I proposed that they sell Greenland to us,” he said.
Senator Cotton added: “I told the President you should buy it as well, “He’s heard that from me and from some other people as well.”
Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the idea of selling it to the US “an absurd discussion.” The Queen is miffed.
President Trump canceled his 2-3 September visit to Denmark.
