US Budget Deal to Support “Our Great Military”

President Donald Trump praised the 2-year budget agreement as “so important for our great military”— adding “Republicans and Democrats must support our troops and support this bill.”

The nearly $400-B deal does not include President Trump’s $25-B request for a Wall on the southern US border, though “it also does not rule out” the financing.

Otherwise, the agreement would provide almost $300-B more to the Pentagon and domestic programs over current spending limits.

Further, infrastructure projects and programs to fight opioid abuse would also receive funding.

The agreement is likely to be added to a stopgap spending bill that passed the House  Tuesday, aimed at averting a government shutdown Thursday at Midnight.

The accord was announced by Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.

President Trump has demanded funding for the border wall be included in any legislation to address a permanent solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which expires on 5 March 2018.
