US Areas Hit With Zika Seeing More Birth Defects

The mosquito-born Zika virus may be responsible for an excess number of birth defects in US states and territories where the virus had been circulating in local mosquito populations, even in women who had no lab evidence of Zika exposure during pregnancy, US health officials said Thursday.

Areas with local Zika transmission, including southern Florida, a portion of south Texas and Puerto Rico, saw a 21% increase in birth defects strongly linked with Zika during 2-H of Y 2016, when Zika was present compared with 1-H of that year, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)reported.

Researchers said it is not clear whether the increase is due to local transmission of Zika alone, or other contributing factors.

The Zika outbreak was 1st detected in Brazil in Y 2015 and quickly spread through the Americas. It has been linked to thousands of suspected cases of microcephaly, a typically rare birth defect marked by unusually small head size, as well as eye abnormalities and nerve damage resulting in joint problems and deafness.

For the study, the CDC examined data from existing birth defect surveillance systems in 15 US jurisdictions to look for birth defects possibly associated with Zika.

They broke these states and territories down into 3 groups, as follows:

  1. places with local Zika transmission
  2. places with higher levels of travel-associated Zika, and
  3. places with lower rates of travel related Zika.

Overall, they found that an excess of 3 cases of birth defects per 1,000 live births that may have been linked with Zika virus infection out of a group of 1-M births in Y 2016.

Because many pregnant women exposed to Zika virus in late Y 2016 gave birth in Y 2017, CDC researchers anticipate that there could be another increase in possible Zika-related birth defects when Y 2017 data are analyzed.

“This report highlights the critical importance of documenting birth defects possibly related to Zika and our need to maintain vigilance,” CDC Director Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald said in an e-Mail statement.

Protect yourself and your loved ones.

After the horrendous impacts of Irma, Harvey and Maria, I spoke with my friend Charles Murray, the Chairman/CEO of Penta 5 USA, about keeping the “Bugs at Bay” and “Toxins out of the Way” this is what Charles told me.

Charles said the continuing war against insects and mosquitoes has many side consequences all of which effect humans and animals. The chemicals are left on all the surrounding tress and ground and the rains wash this into the lakes and streams and underground waters.

We then eat or use this water for our foods at our own peril.

Notably, the large chemical companies rather than spend money on finding out why these insects and mosquitoes bite humans and tackle the solution this way, prefer to develop stronger toxins without any long term checks to see what it does to humans and animal life.

“Penta 5 USA has taken the decision to offer wellness and environmentally friendly products that harm no one.

“The ANYTIME™ no-bite topical lotions are safe for pregnant woman, children and pets leaving no chemical footprint behind. A revolutionary development to replace harsh chemical spraying methods is outdoor ZONE™ no-bite spatial attractant/confounder/repellant  results in the mosquito no longer seeking blood and thus avoids all diseases she passes on.

“No harm to the mosquito she can still pollinate and leave eggs in lakes and streams etc. For rural areas we have the SECURE™ Yard and Garden insecticide sprays that control insects and eggs,” Charles advises.

So, be keenly aware that these are solutions with no chemical footprint left behind that future generations will have to deal with.
