With the Keeneland sale fast approaching these are the USA Stallions you want to keep an eye on:

Year after year, Medaglia d’Oro is one of North America’s leading sires in the sales ring, and he carries on that tradition in 2017. With the first two select sales for yearlings in the history books this year, the sire of Rachel Alexandra now sits atop the leaderboard by overall sales average with some of the industry’s other elite sires playing catch up:

1. Medaglia d’Oro        $756,250
2. War Front                   $710,000
3. Tapit                            $600,000
4. Curlin                          $587,500
5. Pioneerof The Nile   $458,333

At Fasig-Tipton’s July sale, he was represented by the first $1 million-dollar filly since the great Northern Dancer achieved the same feat in 1982. OXO Equine, LLC signed the ticket on this year’s seven-figure yearling. Medaglia d’Oro’s success continued in Saratoga at Fasig-Tipton when Mike Repole and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners expressed their support for Medaglia d’Oro by going to $900,000 for a half-brother to 2017 G3W/G1-placed Battle Of Midway.

Although Medaglia d’Oro fell a bit short of getting the sale topper this year, he has sired three of the last seven sales toppers at Saratoga’s prestigious sale. Further, he is represented by a total of four seven-figure-plus yearlings at that venue since his sons and daughters have been offered for sale. And he has had more select yearling sale toppers (6) in North America over the past decade than any other sire. That tally represents two more than Tapit who is sitting in second place with four.

New Money Honey

His post-sale success is greatly illustrated this year with his high-level winning daughter New Money Honey, a $450,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase. She captured the recent 2017 G1 Belmont Oaks which doubled her career total of G1 wins having won the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Champion Songbird

Achievements of progeny of Medaglia d’Oro on the track this year are further exemplified through other G1-winners Songbird and Dickinson. Dual champion Songbird continues to keep her peers at bay with two more G1 wins in two starts this year, bringing her total of high-level wins to nine. She’s now won 13 of 14 career starts and over $4.5 million.

Dickinson became her sire’s 17th G1 winner at Keeneland this Spring when she defeated the talented Lady Eli in the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes.

Did we mention Medaglia d’Oro also has 12 Black type winners as a broodmare sire and that his son Violence is the second-leading freshman sire this year?

No matter which way you look at it, Medagalia d’Oro delivers.

Don’t miss your next opportunity for a Medaglia d’Oro yearling at Keeneland September.
