Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) owners can again benefit when they refer friends to buy the electric cars
Tesla Inc. relaunched its customer-referral program Thursday night, offering new rewards for purchases.
In a blog post, Tesla TSLA, +0.15% said both the referrer and the buyer will get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging per purchase, and be entered in quarterly drawings to win a special-edition Model Y or Roadster.
Tesla had ended its popular referral program in January, saying at the time it cost too much, and that the program was unlikely to be revived because it hurt margins. But, “We’ve since restructured the program to save the company money while also offering rewards that are super exclusive,” Tesla said Thursday.
In February, CEO Elon Musk said the company is likely to post a loss in the first quarter, but could return to slim profitability in the second quarter.
Tesla shares are down 18% year to date, compared to the S&P 500’s SPX, +1.09% nearly 14% gain.
