Talented O’lonhro 3yo O’tauto on the $2m Caulfield Guineas Trail
The very talented son of Victoria’s value sire O’lonhro is stepping out tomorrow at Flemington and all going well he should be Guineas bound. Trained by Greg Eurell and raced by prominent Victorian breeder Neville Murdoch O’tauto was an impressive winner at his only trial and followed that up with a first up victory (watch the race). The win was enough for connections to nominate him for the $2 million dollar Caulfield Guineas in October, one of the premier 3yo races in Australia.
Tomorrow O’tauto steps up to 1400m and Flemington’s big track looks set to suit his free striding effortless action, a trademark of the O’lohnro family.
Nevile Murdoch said in an interview today from the picturesque Larneuk “we bred the horse here on the farm and we have had a lot of success with the O’lonhro progeny, now that we have a horse aiming at the Guineas and another O’lonhro with a shot a the Kosciusko people are starting to pay attention to the sire, as for O’tauto Greg’s happy with him so we are hoping for the best”.
It has been quite a run for O’lohnro last years winner of the best sire under $10,000, O’lonera has clocked up over $500,000 in winnings and is one of country Victoria’s best stayers, O’So Hazy took 3rd place in the inaugural Country Championships in Sydney and Mamzelle Tess ran 3rd in a Group 3, bookings for the sire have taken off early this year and O’lonhro may see his best book of mares ever in 2018 a good indication that there is a great deal more to come from the son of Lonhro.
For the farm itself things have never looked better, apart from the success of O’lohnro they produced a Group 1 2yo winner and a Group win in South Africa as well as countless wins around Australia and Asia.
