Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) Guidance is Clear: No Loitering!
The arrests of 2 nonpaying loiters at a Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) coffee shop earlier this month has raised questions among some employees about how to handle such situations, but the company guidelines are clear, No Loitering! Means usher them out if they do not go, call for ‘Backup’
The Company’s management says, “it is important to take a stand on issues to support our business and because it’s who we are and how we operate
That’s why we believe we have a responsibility to advocate both internal and public policies that support the health of our business, our partners (employees) and the communities we serve.
Starbucks’ policies and positions demonstrate our commitment to being a responsible business.
They range from global ethical business standards to the guidelines for doing business.
From how we buy our coffee to how we ensure the best possible workplace for our partners, we believe it is important to operate consistent with our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit; 1 person, 1 cup and 1 neighborhood at a time.
It is a longstanding policy at Starbucks and almost every other business, including McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC, that you must make a purchase to use the restroom or hang out at the store.
The policy is in place to ensure that paying customers will not be denied access to seats or the restroom at the expense of vagrants who are just loitering.
The Dust up at Starbucks City Center Philadelphia last Sunday
Witnesses said when 2 Black men refused to leave after being told by the store manager that they could not use the restroom, the manager called the police, who arrested the men.
Liberals jumped on the incident as racist even though loitering and trespassing on a private business are grounds for removal/arrest no matter what color one is.
The police were called because these men had not ordered anything, refused to leave when asked, got in the faces of management and the police and then were taken out in handcuffs for not going politely and quietly.
