A Special LaFerrari Hammered for $7-M at the Finali Mondiali
Saturday night, at Daytona International Speedway, Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) held a special event at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend.
Sotheby RM Auctions (NYSE:BID) presided of the auction of a special version of the LaFerarri that hammered for $7-M. The money raised will go towards reconstructing Central Italy in the aftermath of this year’s devastating earthquakes.
The 1-off LaFerrari was created specially for the event.
The HyperSuperca features a unique livery with a distinct Italian theme. The exterior finished in iconic Ferrari red with a white line on the hood and rear windshield. A small Italian flag adorns the hood and a commemorative plaque will signify the occasion.
This LaFerrari is the 500th car of a 499 car production run, the 1 extra.
The $7-M auction price is record for the most valuable 21st Century automobile ever sold at auction.
The decision by Maranello to donate the LaFerrari was announced on 31 August 2016.
Ferrari often use their HyperSupercars to celebrate special causes. With the Ferrari Enzo, they gave number 499 to the Pope before deciding to manufacture a final example for legendary F1 drive Michael Schumacher.
The LaFerrari is fitted with a 6.3-litre V12 engine mated to an advanced KY-KERS system. In total, the hybrid powertrain managed output of 950 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque.
Combine that with a dry curb weight of just 1255 kg and you have one of the fastest cars in history.
