Shanghai: SSE Composite Index (.SSEC) weak earnings and an uncertain economic outlook outweighing government pledges
China stocks ended a volatile session lower, with weak earnings and an uncertain economic outlook outweighing government pledges of support for wavering markets.
At the close, the Shanghai Composite Index was 0.7 percent lower at 2,641.34 points.
The blue-chip CSI300 index also lost 0.7 percent, with its financial sector sub-index falling 0.89 percent. The consumer staples sector was up 0.03 percent while the real estate index was down 1.08 percent and the healthcare sub-index was down 0.54 percent.
So far this year, the Shanghai stock index is down 20.1 percent, the CSI300 has fallen 20.1 percent while China’s H-share index listed in Hong Kong is down 9.1 percent. Shanghai stocks have risen 1.48 percent this month.
About 17.32 billion shares were traded on the Shanghai exchange, roughly 113.9 percent of the market’s 30-day moving average of 15.20 billion shares a day. The volume in the previous trading session was 16.37 billion.
