Punxsutawney Phil Sees Shadow, 6 More Weeks of Winter

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this year, meaning more Winter misery in most of the US.

Groundhog Day predictions put Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on the map because every 2nd of February the town’s namesake groundhog emerges from his burrow to make his scheduled appearance.

As folklore goes, if Phil sees his shadow, it means 6 more weeks of Winter. If Phil, though, does not see his shadow, it means that an early Spring is coming, according to the Allentown Morning Call.

“Groundhog Day is a great piece of Pennsylvania history,” the executive director of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, organizer of the Punxsutawney celebration, told the Morning Call. “There are not many events like it. A lot of people put this on their bucket list and we embrace that.”

While Punxsutawney has been celebrating Groundhog Day since 1886

Have a terrific weekend.
