President Trump to the EU, “Drop your tariffs, we will drop ours”
US President Donald Trump challenged the European Union (EU) Saturday to “drop their horrific barriers and tariffs on US products” if those countries did not want to see new duties on their steel and aluminum exports to America.
“We will likewise drop ours,” the President said on Twitter:
Trump on Thursday signed proclamations imposing duties of 25% on imported steel and 10% on aluminum that will take effect in about 2 weeks.
The tariffs will not initially apply to Canada and Mexico, the President said, adding security and trade partners could negotiate to seek exemptions.
There were a fed Republicans among those opposing the duties, joining some economists and some other nations in warning that they could start a global trade war, which is very unlikely.
The EU has threatened to slap similar tariffs on American products, the President’s challenge, have at it.
Have a terrific weekend.
