President Trump Sees Negative Rates as a “Gift” to America

Tuesday, President Trump said the US should receive the “gift” of negative interest rates, after 3 Fed officials signaled the central bank is not keen on idea.

President Trump has expressed his desire for the US to pay negative interest on its debt.

As long as other countries are receiving the benefits of Negative Rates, the USA should also accept the ‘GIFT’. Big numbers!” he Tweeted.

St. Louis Fed President James Bullard repeated his skepticism, noting the strategy had a mixed track record and “it is not a good solution for the US” And the Dallas Fed’s Robert Kaplan said he would be against negative rates.
