President Trump, “Russia probe will reveal no collusion with my campaign.”
Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said a special counsel’s probe of Russian interference in the Y 2016 US Presidential election would show there was “no collusion” between his campaign and a foreign power.
“As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know –- there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity,” he said in a statement released by the White House.
“I look forward to this matter concluding quickly. In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.”
Earlier in the day Wednesday, the US Justice Department appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate possible links between President Trump’s Y 2016 campaign team and Russia as well as alleged Russian interference in the US election.
President Trump went on to say, “No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly,” he said. “You can’t let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams. … I guess that’s why we won. Adversity makes you stronger. Don’t give in, don’t back down. … And the more righteous your fight, the more opposition that you will face.”
On Capitol Hill, meanwhile, 3 congressional committees, all led by Republicans, confirmed they wanted to hear from former FBI Director James Comey. Congressional investigators have been seeking Mr. Comey’s memos on his meeting with President Trump, as well as documents from the Justice Department related to his firing.
