President Trump Convenes Opioid Epidemic Summit
President Donald Trump on Thursday will launch a summit to spotlight White House efforts to combat the opioid epidemic, a White House official told the press.
The Thursday afternoon summit will include department leaders such as Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, Veteran Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
About 200 participants from outside the Trump administration will also attend, including representatives of nonprofits that handle addiction and recover, the report said.
Jim Carroll, the new Office of National Drug Control Policy acting director, will be at the Thursday summit, in his first public appearance since taking the role last week, the Examiner reported.
US AG Sessions announced on Tuesday the creation of an opioid task force.
