President Trump Calls on Congress to End “Chain Migration”
President Donald Trump demanded Congress end both “chain migration” and the diversity visa lottery program, saying Tuesday they pose a danger to national security.
President Trump said the legal immigration programs were to blame for 2 recent terror attacks in New York City, since that is how the terrorists in each incident legally entered the United States.
“We’re gonna end both of them,” he said. “We’re going to end ’em. Fast,” adding, “Congress must get involved immediately, and they are involved immediately, and I can tell you we have tremendous support.”
President Trump was commenting following revelations New York City terror suspect Akayed Ullah, 27 anni, who Monday tried to detonate a bomb in the city’s subway system, came to the US from Bangladesh in Y 2011 on a visa for children of siblings of American citizens, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Mr. Ullah, who is a legal permanent resident of the US, told police he was inspired by ISIS to carry out the attack.
Immediately after Monday’s attack, President Trump issued a statement in which he said “the terrible harm that this flawed system [of extended-family chain migration] inflicts on America’s security and economy has long been clear” and President Trump insisted “America must fix its lax immigration system, which allows far too many dangerous, inadequately vetted people to access our country.”
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders sent a similar message, saying “we must protect our borders, we must ensure that individuals entering our country are not coming to do harm to people, and we must move to a merit-based immigration system.”
