Pope Francis to Nigerian Priests, Obey or Be “Fired”
Pope Francis has laid down an ultimatum to Nigerian priests: be “fired” if you do not obey me and your Bishop.
Papa Francis met on 8 June at the Vatican with a delegation from the Ahiara Diocese in Nigeria, where priests have been refusing to accept the Y 2012 appointment by then Pontiff, Benedict XVI, of the local Bishop.
The Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, reported the Pope’s unusually harsh order, saying Sunday that Papa Francis was acting “for the good of the people of God” by threatening to suspend the priests from the ministry if they did not pledge in a letter, by 9 July, “total obedience” to Francis and accept Bishop Peter Okpaleke’s appointment.
Papa Francis told the visiting delegation he was “very sad” about the priests’ refusal to obey and ruled out tribal loyalties as causing the refusal.
Chaos abounds in many places…the Catholic Church is not a Democracy, the Pope is the ultimate Boss.
Have a terrific week.
