Pegasus Word Cup: Outside Favors California Chrome and Here is Why
Deciphering this complicated 2 horse race
Arrogate drew the inside 1 post and California Chrome has been relegated to the extreme outside 12, race over?, not so fast, this may not help Arrogate.
The last time both these horses met was in the Breeder’s Cup, California Chrome on the inside 4 and Arrogate on the outside 10. Arrogate covered a lot more ground, he was outside then inside then outside, a terrible ride in my opinion but Arrogate over came that to beat California Chrome.
California Chrome’s rider was not without fault, after taking the lead in the race he walked the first half mile putting no pressure on Arrogate, and then the Jockey spent so much time looking back at Arrogate it was ridiculous, I was waiting for him to whip out his Cellphone and snap a selfie!!!
Arrogate did win the Travers leading all the way and won it easily, and in record time. Arrogate should not run California Chrome down in this race, Arrogate is the natural leader, if he fails to take that lead he will not find it as easy to come around horses and win at Gulfstream Park.
Pegasus World Cup
California Chrome has the most early speed, he will be sitting right next to Arrogate for most of the race. In the Dubai World Cup and in the Winter Challenge California Chrome was drawn outside and it did not bother him at all. He raced wide just behind the leaders then left him in his dust. That, one would think, will be the strategy for dealing with Arrogate this Saturday.
My outsider is Neolithic, Neolithic walked home last start at Gulfstream Park in reasonable time but under no pressure. This is another horse that will be suited by a fast early pace, he is in form and we have not seen the best of him yet. Neolithic is trained by the King of Gulfstream Park Todd Pletcher, his horses are fit, his race strategy is always sound, I do not think he will be intimidated by the competition, he will give Neolithic every chance.
