New Fed Chairman Coming Soon
White House senior economic adviser Gary Cohn was “mum” about his willingness to take over as Chairman of the Fed early next year.
“I’m really excited to be doing what I’m doing,” Mr. Cohn said Friday when asked about his desire for the job of being head of the US central bank.
US President Donald Trump said in July that Mr. Cohn was a leading candidate for the Fed post when current Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s 4-year term expires in February. The President also told the WS-J that Ms. Yellen and a few others were in the running.
“I have a great relationship with the president,” Mr. Cohn said.
Mr. Cohn said that he relished the opportunity to work with President Trump on tax reform.
Asked what he expected to be doing in February, when Ms. Yellen’s term as chairwoman expires, Mr. Cohn replied, “I’m going to be right here, doing what I’m doing right now.”
Have a terrific weekend.
