Evergreen sire Choisir has made his reputation in part with fast precocious horses that are easy to train and quick to show their potential with this season already producing the brilliant filly Every Rose (2f Choisir x Couredge by Show a Heart) and an up and comer in Malkovich (2c Choisir x Mabkhara , by Anabaa) that impressed trial watchers at Rosehill on Tuesday morning.
The Mark Newnham trained Every Rose looked good at the official trials before stepping out to win the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes at the start of the month and Malkovich gives every indication he may soon follow suit.
Bought by Darby Bloodstock for $240,000 at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale last week, Malkovich is now trained by Bjorn Baker.
He ran the fastest of the three heats for juveniles run over 905 metres and did everything right. Ridden by Rachel King, Malkovich bolted clear under a hold to win by more than six lengths eased down.
One of the more expensive horses sold at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale, Malkovich looks a natural racehorse and is a half-brother to four winners including Group III placed Seewhatshebrings from the family of Group I winners Rewaaya and Sense of Occasion.
The $1million ATC Golden Gift (1100m) next Saturday at Rosehill looms as a likely target for this promising youngster.
