Monday’s World Markets Outlook: Asia-Pacific

Australian shares closed 1.5% lower Monday, with financials and energy stocks leading the declines.

The S&P/ASX 200 index end down 1.5% to 5,815.0, its lowest close since 15 June.

In New Zealand, the benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index rose 1.1% at 11,252.54 as utility and healthcare stocks gained.

Japanese shares fell Monday, tracking Wall Street’s retreat Friday

The benchmark Nikkei average fell 2.3% to 21,995.04 pts, its lowest close since 15 June, with cyclical stocks leading the decliners.

The Nikkei also fell below a major support level of its 25-Day MA, which was last at 22,356, for the 1st time since 7 April.

The broader Topix lost 1.8% to 1,549.22, a 2 wk low, with all of the 33 sector sub-indexes on the Tokyo exchange finishing lower.

China stocks ended lower Monday

At the close, the blue-chip CSI300 index fell 0.7% to 4,109.72, while the Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.6% to 2,961.52. The tech-heavy startup board ChiNext Composite index eased 0.4% on profit-taking.
