Lane’s End New Sires: First Foals on the Ground

In 2016, Lane’s End welcomed one of the most exciting and dynamic stallion crops in memory. The retiring quartet included the champion HONOR CODE and the Grade 1 winners LIAM’S MAP, MR SPEAKER and TONALIST.

Now, the first foals from this Fantastic Four are on the ground…and they are already generating a buzz.

On Jan. 9, the stakes performer Table Three Ten had an HONOR CODE filly for breeder Cobra Farm. HONOR CODE, who resistered a historic double in the G1 Met Mile and G1 Whitney H., is the last and maybe most exciting Grade 1 winner by the great A.P. INDY.

HONOR CODE was the #3 covering sire among freshman at last year’s bloodstock sales, with 17 in-foal mares selling for an average of $163,235, and was the #2 freshman sire, behind American Pharoah, with a median of $145,000.

A week later, the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero LIAM’S MAP got his first foal, a filly from a full-sister to the Grade 2 winner Prospective. The filly was born at Manchester Farm to the winning 6-year-old mare Enhanced.

An $800,000 yearling from the wickedly fast Miss Macy Sue, LIAM’S MAP, a half to the recent Eclipse finalist Not This Time, won 6 of 8 starts and earned over $1,358,940. LIAM’S MAP was the #3 covering sire among freshman in 2016 with 18 sold for a median of $137,500. Individuals sold for $450,000, $300,000, $235,000, etc.

On the same day, the first foal for Classic winner and G1 Cigar Mile winner TONALIST was born at WinStar Farm. Danette, a Grade 1 performer by Curlin, had a strong, healthy filly by TONALIST for breeder Repole Stable.

TONALIST defeated a field that included California Chrome in the G1 Belmont S. and bred 138 mares in his first year at stud. He was a Top 5 covering sire among freshman, with 17 of his 26 mares on offer averaging $115,000.

Last but not least, MR SPEAKER, the purple-pedigreed Grade 1-winning son of Pulpit bred on the same cross as leading sire Tapit, was represented by his first foals on Jan. 14.

At Elm Dale Farm, Grey Pride foaled out a filly by the G1 Belmont Derby winner. Grey Pride is a granddaughter of Radiant Ring, Sovereign Award winner as Canada’s Outstanding Broodmare. On the same day, the multiple stakes winner Capella Dancer had a filly by MR SPEAKER at Rose Hill Farm.

As a grandson of Personal Ensign, MR SPEAKER hails from one of the premier families developed by the Phipps Stable. He was produced by a half to My Flag, herself dam of Storm Flag Flying.
