Lamborghini Debuts the Huracán Performante at Geneva
Monday night, ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini, a unit of Volkswagen (OTCMKT:VLKAY) showed the latest Huracán variant, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante (HP).
The Huracán Performante comes with more power, better Pirelli P Zero Corsa’s, a re-engineered suspension, and upgraded traction control over its predecessors.
From an engineering standpoint, in the Huracán Performante is a new system called ALA, which electronically opens and closes air intake vents at various points on the car to reduce drag and increase downforce. The idea is that this new technology makes the car significantly more precise in its ability to navigate super-high speeds.
The improvements are more than working.
Last week, news reports surfaced that the Huracán Performante had set a new record on the Nürburgring track in Germany, beating the previous production car record holder, the Porsche 918 Spyder, by five seconds and outpacing Lambo’s flagship Aventador SV by 7 secs.
Lamborghini confirmed the reports in Geneva Monday evening.
This 1 up on the Aventador is especially rich because the Huracán is considered the smaller, slower, most-accessible of the Italian brand’s lineup; for many Lamborghini fans, accessible means basic.
The Huracán is anything but.
Lamborghini says that the Performante, which has a permanent four-wheel drive system and electromechanical power steering, will hit 0-60mph in fewer than 2.9 secs.
The Supercar is due out this Summer, with a starting price of $274,390 in the US
