Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates Decked Out and Sassy Little Lila ran 1-2, separated by only a nose, in Saturday’s American Oaks (G1) at Santa Anita in the final North American Grade 1 event of 2016.

In 2016, 60 Keeneland sales alumni accounted for 77 Grade/Group 1 events, sweeping the Triple Crown; capturing eight of the 13 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, led by Arrogate’s win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and Beholder’s victory in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1); and including Grade/Group 1 events at Saratoga, Del Mar, Royal Ascot and Deauville.

On Thursday, Keeneland September Sale graduate Apollo Kentucky took the Tokyo Daishoten (G1) at Japan’s Ohi Racecourse.

Bringing in the New Year on Sunday with graded stakes wins were Keeneland sales graduates Midnight Storm in the San Pasqual (G2) at Santa Anita and Squadron A in the Mr. Prospector (G3) at Gulfstream. September Sale alum El Areeb established himself as a contender on the 2017 Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1) with a dominating 11¼-length win in Monday’s Jerome (G3) at Aqueduct.
