Keeneland Features at the Breeders’ Cup Classic

Seventy-five Keeneland sales graduates and 43 horses that raced and/or trained here during Keeneland’s recent Fall Meet headline entries for the 35th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs Friday and Saturday.

Twelve of the 16 horses entered in Saturday’s $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) are Keeneland sales graduates. They include four-time Grade 1 winner Accelerate, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, and four-time English and Irish Group 1 winner Roaring Lion.

Through 2017, 99 graduates of Keeneland sales have won 107 Breeders’ Cup races. The winners of 47 Breeders’ Cup races made their final start before the event during the Fall Meet.

Keeneland sales graduates entered in the Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup races, being called “Future Stars Friday,” are:

$2 million Sentient Jet Juvenile (G1): Code of Honor, Complexity, Dueling, Game Winner, Gunmetal Gray, Knicks Go, Mr. Money, Standard Deviation

Among the 43 horses that raced or trained at Keeneland during the 2018 Fall Meet and are entered in the Breeders’ Cup races are the winners of the Fall Meet’s 10 “Win and You’re In” races: Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) winner Next Shares (Mile), Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) winner Knicks Go (Juvenile), Juddmonte Spinster (G1) winner Blue Prize (ARG) (Distaff), Darley Alcibiades (G1) winner Restless Rider (Juvenile Fillies), First Lady (G1) winner A Raving Beauty (GER) (Filly and Mare Turf), Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix (G2) winner Promises Fulfilled (Sprint), Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) winner Golden Mischief (Filly and Mare Sprint), JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G3) winner Concrete Rose (Juvenile Fillies Turf), Dixiana Bourbon (G3) winner Current (Juvenile Turf) and Indian Summer winner Strike Silver (Juvenile Turf Sprint).

Three other stakes winners from the Fall Meet entered in the Breeders’ Cup are Woodford (G2) Presented by Keeneland Select winner Bucchero (Turf Sprint), Lexus Raven Run (G2) winner Shamrock Rose (Filly and Mare Sprint) and Buffalo Trace Franklin County (G3) winner Chanteline (Turf Sprint).

Red Mile welcomes racing fans to watch and wager on the Breeders’ Cup.

On Thursday, advance wagering will begin on the full Friday and Saturday Breeders’ Cup cards.

On Friday, a number of mutuel windows at Red Mile will open at 8 a.m. ET. Churchill’s program begins at 12:55 p.m. with four undercard races.

The Breeders’ Cup races that day are the Juvenile Turf Sprint (3:21 p.m.), Juvenile Fillies Turf (4 p.m.), Tito’s Handmade Vodka Juvenile Fillies (4:40 p.m.), Juvenile Turf (5:22 p.m.) and Sentient Jet Juvenile (6:05 p.m.).

On Saturday, Nov. 3, Red Mile’s clubhouse opens at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $55 per person and include a seat, program and a buffet from 1-5 p.m. Call 859 255-0752 or email [email protected] to make reservations.

Post time for Churchill’s first race is 10:45 a.m. The Breeders’ Cup races are the Filly and Mare Sprint (noon), Turf Sprint (12:38 p.m.), Dirt Mile (1:16 p.m.), Maker’s Mark Filly and Mare Turf (2:04 p.m.), TwinSpires Sprint (2:46 p.m.), Mile (3:36 p.m.), Distaff (4:16 p.m.), Turf (4:56 p.m.) and Classic (5:44 p.m.).
