House Legislators Call President Trump to Declassify FISA Application

Some of President Donald Trump’s biggest supporters in the House will ask him to declassify portions of the FBI’s application for a surveillance warrant on a former Trump campaign aide.

Republican Reps. Lee Zeldin, (R-NY), Mark Meadows, (R-NC), Matt Gaetz, (R-FL)., and Jim Jordan, (R-OH), have announced that they will call on President Trump to declassify the Carter Page FISA application, notes from Justice Department official Bruce Ohr, and “other relevant documents,” according to a statement obtained by the press.

The legislators plan on holding a press conference Thursday afternoon to formally make the request.

“On Thursday, September 6, at 1:00p., Congressman Lee Zeldin, R, NY-1) will be joined by Reps. Mark Meadows (R, NC-11), Jim Jordan (R, OH-4), Matt Gaetz (R, FL-1) and other Members of Congress to call on President Trump to declassify and release the Carter Page FISA applications (especially 20 pages in particular), all 302s of Bruce Ohr (who testified last week before the House Committees on Oversight and Government Reform and Judiciary), and other relevant documents.”

President Trump has previously sided with his congressional allies on the Justice Department’s withholding of sensitive documents, and in January he agreed to declassify the House GOP memo that confirmed the existence of the surveillance warrant on Mr. Page.

President Donald Trump, in a pair of Tweets Saturday, attacked FBI and Department of Justice officials about the surveillance warrants issued on his former campaign aide, Carter Page.

“There were no FISA hearings held over Spy documents,” he said in the first tweet, moving on to quote Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton: “‘It is astonishing that the FISA courts couldn’t hold hearings on Spy Warrants targeting Donald Trump. It isn’t about Carter Page, it’s about the Trump Campaign. You’ve got corruption at the DOJ & FBI. The leadership…….of the DOJ & FBI are completely out to lunch in terms of exposing and holding those accountable who are responsible for that corruption.'”
