Hong Kong’s 2016/17 Season Finale race meeting will be held this Sunday (16 July) at Sha Tin Racecourse. The unveiling of the Tony Cruz Award winner, as well as the Most Improved Horse and the Most Popular Jockey awards are among the afternoon’s many highlights, as is the ever-popular jockey parade.

The Tony Cruz Award was introduced last year to recognise the homegrown jockey who achieves the most wins in a season. Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman Dr. Simon S O Ip will present this season’s Tony Cruz Award after the final race. Jockey Derek Leung, who has ridden 25 winners this term, is now leading, with his nearest rivals Matthew Poon and Kei Chiong both five wins adrift on 20 for the campaign.

The Club’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges will present the Most Popular Jockey award, while Dr. Allen Shi, President of the Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association, will present the Most Improved Horse award. The result of the Most Admired Overseas Horse, voted for by the public, will also be announced. Connections of all Champion Awards winners, as well as Champion Jockey and Champion Trainer, will be on stage for a group photo to round off the 2016/17 racing season.

The day will close with the ever-popular Season Finale Parade on the turf track, with jockeys saying farewell and thanks to fans, and handing out souvenirs.

Throughout the day, racegoers will get $100 off on a minimum spend of $300 on selected merchandise at Sha Tin Racecourse’s “Gift at Races” souvenir shops. Popular racing-themed merchandise will be on sale at up to 70% off the regular price at the Season Finale Bazaar taking place at 1/F, Grandstand II. The Club’s Horse Mascots will also make appearances for photo opportunities with racing fans.

There will be 11 races on the card, with the first race starting at 12:30 pm. Admission starts at 10:30 am. For enquiries, please call the HKJC’s Customer Hotline 1817. All racegoers must be aged 18 or above.
