The Hong Kong Jockey Club was active at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale at Doncaster on 12 April, purchasing four well-related, athletic colts for a total outlay of £350,000 (approximately HK$3.39 million).
The Club struck early in the session for Lot 8, a fluid-moving colt from the family of G1-winning champion juvenile Bushranger, by the Group 1-producing sire Kodiac – a noted speed influence. The bay’s dam, Florida City, has produced three multiple winners from as many runners and is a half-sister to the G2 winner Helen Of Spain, out of the G3-placed Port Helene.
That youngster cost £100,000 and the Club wrapped up its spending for the day with another colt for the same price, Lot 139. The Havana Gold bay is out of an unraced half-sister to the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Belmez, from the family of G1 Arlington Million hero Debussy and G1 Shuka Sho scorer Red Desire.
Between times, the Club secured a Holy Roman Emperor half-brother to Louis The Pious, G3-placed and successful in the prestigious Ayr Gold Cup and Royal Ascot’s Buckingham Palace Handicap. The bay, Lot 112, is out of a full-sister to the G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Pure Grain, while the mare’s full-brother, Strong Sun, won four times in Hong Kong for trainer John Moore. The Club secured the youngster for £95,000.
And another colt with G1 connections was snapped up for £55,000. Lot 107 is by the British champion sprinter Kyllachy, out of the Listed-placed and winner-producing mare Valentina Guest. The bay’s second dam is a Listed-winning full-sister to the dual G1 scorer Kartajana.
