Hong Kong Horse Racing: Happy Valley Preview

Hong Kong racing features a Group 3 and several high quality races at Happy Valley tonight, here is a preview brought to you by Knightsbridge.

Race 1 – PATERSON HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 19:15
Turf, “B” Course, 1000M, Good
Prize Money: $660,000, Rating:40-0, Class 5

Not much of a race this one which is rare for Hong Kong, it makes if hard to pick a winner, of this bunch it looks like KING’S STEED (12) has been racing well enough to handle this field, (watch his last run) KIM GLORY (10) will like the 1000m but  has not won in a long time, recent starts indicate a return to form. GLORY HORSIE (8) put in quite a nice run last time out, a repeat of that will see him figure in the finish.

Race 2 – GREAT GEORGE HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 19:45
Turf, “B” Course, 1200M, Good
Prize Money: $880,000, Rating:60-40, Class 4

SHARPMIND (6) has been in consistent form (watch his last win) and has the measure of these, a tough draw but his form should see him figure in the finish. EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE (2) is a bit of a plugger but has been thereabouts of late and has to be considered. NICE FANDANGO (7) is a last start winner (watch) this is a speedy horse and may well be charging home.

Race 3 – GREAT GEORGE HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 20:15
Turf, “B” Course, 1200M, Good
Prize Money: $880,000, Rating:60-40, Class 4

NASHASHUK (6) is representing the the very hot team of Size-Moreira and that is hard to pass up, he should represent some value and is the best e/w bet of the night. SHOWING CHARACTER (8) is the main danger, the horse is in form and down in class. COUR VALANT (7) finished like a freight train after a long spell, second up here which makes it tough but still a place chance.

Race 4 – KINGSTON HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 20:45
Turf, “B” Course, 1650M, Good
Prize Money: $880,000, Rating:60-40, Class 4

ENORMOUS HONOUR (1) was impressive winning last time out and loves this distance (watch) another horse that may start at reasonable odds and is worth an ew bet. MR KOOL (2) has some claims here, he is also at home over this distance and he will be plugging on at the finish. CONTRIBUTION (3) for the minors.

Race 5 – CAUSEWAY HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 21:15
Turf, “B” Course, 1000M, Good
Prize Money: $1,310,000, Rating:80-60, Class 3

MR RIGHT (7) drops in class and will find this a lot easier than recent efforts, should have the ability to hold these out. GENERAL IRON (2) gets his chance in this and is worth consideration. CIRCUIT KING (6) for the minors.

Race 6 – THE JANUARY CUP (HANDICAP)
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 21:45
Turf, “B” Course, 1800M, Good
Prize Money: $3,000,000, -, Group Three

The big race of the night is the Group 3 January Cup and Matthew Chadwick’s mount THE GOLDEN AGE (8) coming off 2 wins in a row looks the horse to beat. MARVEL HERO (5) will likely start favourite with Moreira on board and must be considered the danger in this, CITRON SPIRIT (9) should be running on.

Race 7 – CLEVELAND HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 22:15
Turf, “B” Course, 1650M, Good
Prize Money: $1,310,000, Rating:80-60, Class 3

Not a Group race but a good quality race nonetheless, I have to lean towards BANK ON RED (3) in this, great win 2 starts back and found nothing but trouble in his latest run. GO BEAUTY GO (5) is a good horse and tonight might be her night, keep safe. MISTER MONTE (9) could well finish in the placings.

Race 8 – CANNON HANDICAP
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Happy Valley, 22:50
Turf, “B” Course, 1200M, Good
Prize Money: $1,860,000, Rating:95-75, Class 2

SUPER FLUKE (5) is the bet of the night, in phenomenal form and looks impossible to beat on recent form. MR GENUINE (2) has been putting his best fort forward of late and can not be dismissed. PERPETUAL JOYANCE (4) has done everything but win, worth consideration.
