“Hold FBI and DOJ Officials in Contempt of Congress”
Sunday, US House oversight committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) threatened to hold Top FBI and Justice Department officials in contempt of Congress if they fail to comply with lawmakers’ subpoenas for sensitive documents.
Early this year, lawmakers subpoenaed all documents from the 2 agencies related to the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s e-Mail server, the firing of former FBI official Andrew McCabe, and alleged surveillance of The Trump Campaign during the 2016 Presidential Election.
The DOJ and FBI are intentionally blocking Congresses investigation. But, the agencies claim that the requested documents require time-intensive review before they can be released is “Silly!”
Mr. Gowdy, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) met Friday with FBI and DOJ officials and “went item by item” through the outstanding subpoenas, Mr. Gowdy said in a TV interview Sunday.
“And Paul [Ryan] made it very clear: There’s going to be action on the floor of the House this week if the FBI and DOJ do not comply with our subpoena request,” Mr. Gowdy said. The House will use “its full arsenal of constitutional weapons to gain compliance,” he continued.
“Including contempt of Congress?” the interviewer asked.
“Um, that would be among them, Yes Sir.” Mr. Gowdy answered. “I don’t want the drama. I want the documents.”
“We can’t force the resignation of Rosenstein, right, but we can hold in contempt, we can pass sense of Congress resolutions, we can impeach – look, I think we’re getting close to there,” Representative Devin Nunes said. “If they don’t have good reasons why they haven’t provided us this information, the American people’s patience have run out. My patience has run out. You had the Speaker of the House [Paul Ryan, R-Wis.] and [House Oversight Committee] Chairman [Trey] Gowdy gave them every opportunity to try to clear all of this up.
Messrs Wray and Rosenstein were in that meeting Friday night, they got the message loud and clear.
Have a terrific week
