One million USD in stakes money is up for grabs at Gulfstream Park’s annual “Summit of Speed” on July 1. The “Summit of Speed” is a septet of sprint distance stakes on dirt and turf, that makes up half of Saturday’s 14 race card.  The special day of racing begins with an early 1st race post time of 11:55.

# Race Purse Age/Sex Dist
3 Kiss a Native S $100,000 2yo 5.5f
4 Brave Raj S $100,000 2yo f. 5.5f
5 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint $75,000 3 & up 5f (T)
10 Azalea S $75,000 3yo f. 7f
11 Carry Back S G3 $150,000 3yo 7f
12 Princess Rooney S G2 $250,000 3 & up f. 7f
13 Smile Sprint S G2 $250,000 3 & up 6f

Race 11 at 5:02, the Carry Back S.,  attracted 11 entrants and here are a few of the contenders.

Three Rules, breaking from the 3 stall, was last year’s Florida-bred Horse of the Year and Champion 2 year-old male, after sweeping the Florida Sire Stakes series, all by open lengths.  This year, he raced prominently into the stretch in the Swale G2, the Fountain of Youth G2, and the G1 Florida Derby.  His form and breeding suggests that 7 furlongs could be his sweet spot, and he appears the likely favorite.  Cornelio Velasquez piloted Three Rules to the winners’ circle 5 times and returns to ride for owner/breeder Shade Tree Thoroughbreds and trainer Jose Pinchin.

Sons of Tapit are always dangerous, especially when they emerge from Todd Pletcher’s barn.  That’s the profile for #6 Blind Ambition, who is undertaking a substantial class hike in his stakes debut.  In his most recent start at 7.5f on the grass, Blind Ambition dominated in the lane, following tame splits of :24 and :48.  Tyler Gaffalione gets the call.

Classic Rock is 3 for 3 at GP but turned in a clunker at BEL on June 10, while racing nearest the fence throughout.  He should fare better from an outside #10 post on Saturday at double-digit odds.

Sweetontheladies dueled, then edged clear in his most recent start as the longest price in a four horse field going a sloppy 5f off-the-turf.  He worked a sharp :47 & 4 in preparation this week and enters the Carry Back second start off a layoff.  We expect to use Sweetontheladies in our trifectas.
