Gold: Gold prices rose Wednesday on a weaker USD, as the outcome of US Congressional midterm election came in as expected, Republican hold Senate, and Dems take control of the House.

  • Spot gold was up 0.2% at $1,228.40 oz at 0118 GMT.
  • US gold futures (GCcv1) climbed 0.3% to $1,229.7 oz.

Gold-backed ETFs registered increased inflows to both North American and European funds during October, as volatile equity markets triggered flight-to-quality buying, the World Gold Council (WGC) said Tuesday. China’s gold output in the 1st 3 Q’s of Y 2018 fell 7.46% from a year earlier to 289.75 tonnes, the China Gold Association said Tuesday.

Energy: Crude Oil prices dipped Wednesday as rising output and US sanction waivers that allow Iran’s biggest buyers to keep taking its Crude Oil for another 6 months reinforced the outlook for a well-supplied energy market.

  • Front-month ICE Brent Crude Oil futures (LCOc1) were at $71.99 bbl at 0552 GMT, -14c, or 0.2%, from Tuesday’s close.
  • NYMEX WTI Crude Oil (CLc1) was at $61.84 bbl, -37c, or 0.6%.
  • Brent Crude Oil and WTI Crude Oil have slumped by 17.4 and 19.7% respectively from recent highs marked  in early October.

Beyond Iran, supply continues to come in higher-than-expected, particularly from the US, Middle East OPEC, Russia and Libya.

Stocks: Wall Street stock futures ticked up while Asian shares held very tight ranges early Wednesday.

USD: The US Dollar(.DXY) Index was down about 0.3%, as traders studied the US midterm Congressional election results for implications on Washington’s broader economic and political agenda.
