Gold

Gold prices held steady Friday but remained on track to rise for the 4th week running, the longest string of weekly gainers since January on worries of a global economic slowdown.

Spot gold was little changed at $1,231.76 oz at 0416 GMT. It is up 0.5 on the week.

US gold futures (GCcv1) were up 0.2% at $1,234.60 oz.

Gold prices have gained about 6% after falling in mid-August to their lowest since January 2017 at $1,159.96 oz.

Silver fell 0.3% to $14.56 oz, and Platinum was down 0.4% at $819.45 oz.

Energy

Crude Oil prices fell Friday and were heading for a 3rd weekly loss, pulled down as Saudi Arabia’s OPEC governor said the market may become oversupplied soon and after a slump in global equities clouded the outlook for demand.

ICE Brent Crude Oil futures (LCOc1) were down 51c, or 0.7%, at $76.38 bbl by 0331 GMT. The global benchmark is on course for a weekly loss of over 4%.

NYMEX WTI Crude Oil futures (CLc1) are down 64c, or 1%, at $66.68 bbl. The US benchmark is set for a 3.5% on the week.

“Bearish sentiment could force a re-test of support of the Brent low in the $70.0 bbl range,” Fitch Solutions said in a note Friday.

Stocks

Asian shares slipped again Friday morning, despite a bounce on Wall Street overnight.

USD

The US Dollar (.DXY) Index is up 0.3% at 96.69, extending this week’s gainer to 1.0%.
