Giant’s Causeway Extends Legacy

With lifetime earnings of over $160,000,000 Giant’s Causeway leads all active sires in North America bar none.

The only horse since Danzig to top the General Sires List on three occasions, he has also twice topped the 2YO table.

Giant’s Causeway has sired champion 2-y-o’s, Classic winning 3-y-o’s, record breaking older horses, and exceptional colts and fillies on both dirt, synthetics and turf.

He is the sire of 31 Gr.1 winners worldwide.

Well-bred filly Smiling Causeway (3f Giant’s Causeway x Shandra Smiles, by Cahill Road) ended 2017 on a winning note taking out the $76,250 Lightning City Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.

Trained by Arnaud Delacour, Smiling Causeway zoomed through the five furlong turf sprint to win by a length and a half.

Stakes-placed twice previously, the super consistent filly was deserving of the win and her overall record now stands at four wins and three seconds from seven starts with prizemoney of $179,200.

“She broke a little slow today, but I knew some of the others were going to send their horses so I just let her run comfortable,” said winning rider Daniel Centeno.

“When we turned for home and I asked her, she went by everybody like nothing. I always had plenty of horse, and she galloped out strong after the wire.”

A $400,000 Keeneland November Weanling purchase, Smiling Causeway runs for Audley Farm Stable and is a half-sister to multiple Grade I winner Smiling Tiger and 2013 Champion 2YO Filly and Grade I winner She’s a Tiger being from terrific producer Shandra Smiles.

Smiling Causeway is the 176th stakes-winner for champion sire Giant’s Causeway.
