FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (.KLSE) Sentiment turns sour one week ahead of US tariffs deadline

The local equities market turned to consolidation on Monday as a positive US jobs data report over the weekend failed to inspire optimism in the global economy as the deadline for fresh US tariffs on Chinese imports loomed.

Washington and Beijing had agreed in October to work out a phase one trade deal, which could postpone or drop the planned tariffs on Dec 15, but a firm agreement has yet to materialise.

At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI fell 3.94 points to 1,564.5, erasing the gains it saw on Friday to suggest immediate trading action would stay below the 50-day simple moving average.

Tenaga Nasional dragged the index lower as it dropped 16 sen to RM13.26 to retrace Friday’s gains.
