Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) to Fit its Electric Power Trains in Maserati’s Alfieri
Maserati’s flagship sports car, the Alfieri, will go electric, offering hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full-electric versions
Tim Kuniskis, boss of the iconic Maserati brand, said in the presentation in Italy that Ferrari will supply all future power-trains across every configuration, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles.
Fiat Chrysler also announced that it will market full EVs under the Maserati Blue label.
Maserati Blue will offer battery-electric versions of 4 cars, as follows: The Alfieri coupe, a convertible version named the Cabrio, the Quattroporte (4dr sedan), and the Levante (SUV).
The Alfieri debuted as a 2+2 sports coupe concept at the Geneva Motor Show in Y 2014.
The production version calls for a new modular aluminum space frame to minimize weight gain, and it will offer AWD (all-wheel-drive) with full active torque vectoring. Top speed will be more than 186 mph, and it will go from 0 to 62 mph in around 2 secs.
Maserati promises a best-in-class lightweight platform SUV with 50/50 weight distribution.
New versions of the Quattroporte luxury sedan and Levante crossover will also be based on a new lightweight, modular platform and will include Level 2 autonomous-driving capabilities, with Level 3 available by late Y 2021 or early Y 2022. Both cars will get Q4 AWD and come with a choice of 3 power-trains, including hybrid and PHEV.
Maserati sales are up globally by 700% since Y 2011, with volumes up by more than 80% outside of the EU. It is targeting 100,000 annual sales by Y 2022, up from around 50,000 in Y 2017.
The Italians know how to build cars, engines and motors, so expect these Maserati’s to devour Tesla’s (NASDAQ:TSLA) world wide.
