Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) Hints at a Modern Interpretation of the 250 GTO
Italian coachbuilder Ares Design is working on a modern interpretation of the Ferrari 250 GTO, as its latest project (pictured above)
The Modena-based company, provided the 1st details on the project last Friday.
The Ares’ 250 GTO coachwork is designed to fit the chassis of Ferrari’s 812 Superfast and F12 Berlinetta models. Should a buyer submit the 812 Superfast as the donor, the clienti would be looking at a modern supercar combining the 250 GTO’s lines with 789 horsepower.
Ares started the project on request of a customer.
But, now the Ares may be willing to build more than just that 1 Supercar. Pricing depends on demand but Ares is looking at a starting price below $1.16-M, which includes a 812 Superfast chassis, the project is still in the planning stage.
Ares founder Dany Bahar understands the significance of the 250 GTO and wants to hear feedback from fans of the Ferrari icon as well as Ferrari before proceeding.
“In my view, the 250 GTO is the most iconic sports car ever produced, and the Holy Grail of motoring,” he said. “Maybe people will think that some cars do not need to be redone. We will listen.”
Should a Green light happen, Ares says it will be able to have the 1st car ready within 12 months.
Ferrari has its own program for iconic Supercars,
In the past Ferrari has built cars with lines influenced by the 250 GTO. Recall, the 1-Off SP America of Y 2014, though the Ares recreation is more faithful to the lines of the original 250 GTO.
The company has made modern interpretations of classic Ferraris. And concurrent with the 250 GTO project, Ares is working on a modern interpretation of the Ferrari 412 based on the chassis of the modern GTC4 Lusso.
