Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) Driver Takes On Tianmen Mountain’s 99 Curves
President of the official Ferrari Fan Club has successfully tackled the 99 bends of a route stretching around China’s Tianmen Mountain, described by some as the most dangerous road in the world.
Italian Fabio Barone, President of the ‘Red Passion’ Ferrari Fan Club, completed the 11.3 kilometre Tianmen Mountain Road in just 10 mins, 31 sec, China News reported.
In order to complete the challenge, Fabio Barone’s team replaced some of the Ferrari’s bodywork with carbon fibre, reducing the car’s weight by 90 kg. The wheels, suspension and other systems were also modified.
In July last year, Fabio Barone set the first speed record on the Transfagarasan mountain road, a spectacular highway located at the foot of Carpathians in Romania.
Tianmen Mountain, located in Zhangjiajie National Park in south China’s Hunan Province, has played host to a number of extreme events recently, including a ‘Drift King’ event hosted by Red Bull that saw drivers drifting around its 99 curves.
Over the past year, the mountain range has seen a vertical dance show held on a cliff-side, a wingsuit descent from 1,400 metres
and mountain bikers racing down 999 steps in just 29 secs.
