Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) is Celebrating It’s 70th Anniversary
On 12 March 1947, Enzo Ferrari started the 125 S, the 1st car badged with his name.
That 1st drive on streets of Maranello marked the start of the iconic history of Ferrari sports and racing cars. Enzo’s small factory grew into one of the great “Made in Italy”.
Now, 70 anni later, on 12 March 2017, Ferrari kicked off its official celebrations for this anniversary.
Ferrari is releasing a special video featuring a re-enactment of the 1st 12-cylinder to sport the Cavallino Rampante on its bonnet, the 125 S, driving through the factory gates on Via Abetone Inferiore and, in doing so, symbolically passing the baton of the Ferrari legacy to the LaFerrari Aperta.
The 125S was the 1st car badged a Ferrari.
Its 12-cylinder engine, Key to Ferrari’s performance, was designed by Gioacchino Colombo; Giuseppe Busso and Luigi Bazzi contributed.
On 12 March 1947, the 125 S, an un-bodied steel rolling chassis (I have the B&W photos) came to life for the 1st time and the Ferrari legacy began.
Then, just 2 months later, on 11 May 1947, 125S made its track debut at the Piacenza Circuit.
At the wheel of the 125 S was Franco Cortese. Enzo Ferrari called the even “a promising failure” after the car was forced to pull up with a fuel problem leading the race.
The initial failure was short-lived, 9 days later on 20 May, Franco Cortese drove the 125 S to victory in the Rome Grand Prix, completing the 40 laps of the circuit and the 137 kilometres of the race at an average speed of 88.5 km/h.
This was the 1st of 6 race wins the 125 S posed in Y 1947, and notably the great Tazio Nuvolari drove 125S to victory in the Parma Grand Prix
Now, technological excellence, precision construction and space age coachwork, performance, style, exclusivity continue to be Ferrari’s core values, and they are represented by the car launched to mark the 70th Anniversary of the foundation of the company, LaFerrari Aperta.
LaFerrari Aperta (Spider) is the latest Limited Edition model sold only to Ferrari’s most loyal clienti.
The Scuderia’s Supercar combines extraordinary performance with open-top driving, and holds the same hybrid power unit as the coupé: an 800 cv 6,262cc V12 engine coupled with a 120 kW electric motor for a total power output of a 963 cv.
During Y 2017, over 60 countries are lined up to host events designed to treat clients and enthusiasts of the marque the Ferrari experience as part of the “Driven by Emotion” a Keystone on which the Ferrari story was founded and flourishes.
Ferrari says that “Driven by Emotion” is a tribute to the importance placed by the Cavallino Rampante on emotion throughout the last 70 years: be it in terms of delivering the most riveting and rewarding driving experience possible,
As I have witnessed over the past 50+ years as a Ferrari aficionado and owner the world’s most recognized automobile brand is loved for its styling, innovation and technological solutions that are advanced by each new model.
