Ferrari: The 488 GTO, the Most Extreme Ferrari V8 Supercar
Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) may build a faster, more powerful version of the 488 GTB called the 488 GTO, as it was recently reported that the Maranello outfit is building a “souped-up” version of the car to compete with the Porsche 911 GT2.
The car will feature a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V8 engine that’s capable of producing more than 700 hp and more than 560 lb-ft of torque.
In addition to tuning up the 488’s engine, Ferrari will remove unneeded equipment, lighten what’s unneeded, and fit larger brakes.
An estimated 0-60 time is 2.7 secs, and the car should only take about 7.5 secs to sprint all the way to 124 mph (200 kph). If the finished product is able to hit those numbers the 488 GTO would beat the 710 hp McLaren 720S.
The current 488 GTB now makes 660 hp, so let’s assume the next high-powered version of it will be able to produce over 700 hp. There’s room to improve in terms of weight reduction and aerodynamics, too. That means the car will be an extreme Supercar.
The GTO name is only worthy of a truly fast car.
The company has used it 3 times: 1st on the 250 GTO, 2nd on the 288 GTO, and then a 3rd time on the 599 GTO. When Ferrari gives a car that name bet the focus is on extreme performance.
Ferrari has not officially released any details on this Supercar yet, so for now it is speculation, but there are some spy shots circulating of a vehicle from the automaker, meaning we will likely see something revealed later this year.
