This show winner is just 1 of 4 1957 Ferrari 335S racers constructed, and Sunday took the coveted Concours d’Sport award during The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2019.
Fitted with a 3.8-litre, V12 engine with 390-horsepower, the 335S could reach maximum speeds of 186mph in tuned-Le Mans specification; 400bhp from an upgraded 4.1-litre power-plant.
The Concours winner’s 1st event was the Sebring 12 Hours, driven by Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant. British F1 Champion Mike Hawthorne and teammate Luigi Musso then campaigned the Ferrari during the Le Mans 24 Hours of June 1957.
Mr. Hawthorn set the 1st 200kph-plus lap record in the history of the grueling event, before being forced out by mechanical problems and engine failure.
The 335S would later claim 4th place in the Swedish Grand Prix and 2nd place in the Venezuelan Grand Prix before securing the 1957 World Constructor’s F1 title.

Sold the following year to Luigi Chinetti, the 335S was raced to victory by Stirling Moss & Masten Gregory during the Cuban Grand Prix of February 1958.
A new gentleman racer bought it in Y 1960 and owned it until Frenchman Pierre Bardinon purchased the racer in Y 1970. One of the world’s leading Ferrari collectors, Mr. Bardinon is credited with identifying the significance of Ferrari competition cars long before their value was recognized.
By the time of his death in Y 2012, Mr. Bardinon had amassed a collection of 50 fine examples. He even built a private circuit near his Aubusson home on which to run them regularly.
Today, the 335S is 1 of the most valuable cars in the world. The Concours d’Sport win during The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2019 raises its market provenance.
Ferrari is the Aristocrat of the automotive sector.
