Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Kimi Raikkonen went fastest in the 2nd session at the Singapore Grand Prix Friday, but his team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, was only 9th fastest after hitting a wall and prematurely ending his running.

Mr. Raikkonen posted a lap of 1 min, 38.699 secs to edge championship leader Lewis Hamilton into 2nd.

Red Bull Racing’s duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo came 3rd and 4th, respectively, reversing their positions having come 1-2 in the morning session.

Mr. Riccardo recorded the fastest lap time of 1:39.711 in the morning, with Mr. Hamilton finishing 6th behind Nico Hulkenberg, and Messrs Raikkonen, Vettel and Verstappen.

Mr. Ricciardo looked comfortable around the Marina Bay Street Circuit, and can pose a threat on Sunday evening under the lights.

FP2 CLASSIFICATION (90/90 MINS)

Kimi Raikkonen heads the charge in FP2, with Hamilton close behind

In terms of the championship competitors, it was a good evening’s work for Mr. Hamilton and a bad 1 for Mr. Vettel.

Mr. Vettel driver has 30 points to make up on Mr. Hamilton in the final 7 races if he is to claim a 5th world championship.

But he missed out on Key track time after hitting the wall with 45 mins to go and thus ending his session early.

But it was largely easy going for the for Mr. Hamilton after that, who improved greatly on his 1st practice session

The Williams Team’s Lance Stroll avoided a potentially nasty incident in the final half-hour when his brakes caught fire, but he was able to make it back to the garage in time.

The Renault team of Mr. Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz were impressive as they stopped MercedesAMG from joining the Red Bulls and Ferraris at the Top of the standings.

But after a session in which the Top spot switched between Messrs Ricciardo, Vettel, Raikkonen, Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, it is likely the winner Sunday will come from one of the Top 3 teams.
