F1: Nico Rosberg Wins His 1st World Championship at Yas Marina
Lewis Hamilton won the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Sunday, but missed out on the F1 drivers’ title as MercedesAMG teammate Nico Rosberg finished 2nd.
The result gave Mr. Rosberg his 1st world championship by a 5 points margin.
It was a controversial performance from Mr. Hamilton who ignored instructions from his Mercedes engineers to increase his pace as he backed Mr. Rosberg into the chasing pack in the closing laps.
Mr. Rosberg had to withstand late pressure from the Sebastian Vettel in his Ferrari to hold onto 2nd.
The Red Bull Racing cars of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo came 4th and 5th, with Mr. Verstappen recovering from a spin at Turn 1 after contact with Nico Hulkenberg’s Force India.
Kimi Raikkonen in his Ferrari came 6th for Ferrari ahead of the Force Indias of Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez.
Felipe Massa was 9th in the final race of his career for Williams, also completing the feat of finishing in the points at every Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he raced in.
There was no Dream Finish to Jenson Button’s F1 career, however, as a front-right suspension failure stopped his McLaren on Lap 13.
