F1: Mexican Grand Prix Practice, Red Bull Dominates, Ferrari and MercedesAMG Take it Easy
Red Bull Racing dominated Friday’s action at the Mexican Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen leading a 1-2 for the team in both FP1 & FP2 Friday..
In FP-2 Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Sebastian Vettel was 4th in his Ferrari, 1.234 secs back, while Lewis Hamilton was even further adrift in 7th.
At the end of the day, neither the Ferrari drivers nor the MercedesAMG drivers were willing to push as hard as Mr. Verstappen allowing the Red Bull Racing driver to keep his spot at the Top of the board.
Sunday, Mr. Hamilton has a chance to clinch the driver’s championship. A Top 7 finish is all the MercedesAMG’s lead driver needs to win this prize for a 5th time.
There was something for the home fans to cheer Friday, as their home town racer, Sergio Perez was looking sharp in his Force India car.
Of the usual challengers it was Mr. Vettel who was able to put together the best fight, which will bode well for him ahead of his attempt to keep the title drive alive Sunday.
It is expected that the performance of the Top F1 teams will improve Saturday, the early indications are that Red Bull is strong at the high altitude.
So, we may see 1 of the best battles for the podium of this season.
On Saturday the drivers will be back for FP-3 and then Qualifying.
