F1: MercedesAMG’s Nico Rosberg Posted 2nd Career Win At Shanghai
Nico Rosberg collect 25 world championship points at Shsanghai Sunday passing Stirling Moss as the driver to win the most Grands Prix without winning a F1 world championship.
No F1 driver has ever won 6 Grands Prix in a row or the opening 3 races in a season and not won the championship.
Nico Rosberg is the 1st driver to start a season with a hat-trick of world championship wins since Michael Schumacher in Y 2004. Before Mr. Rosberg it had only been done 6 times in history. The drivers to have started the season with 4 or more successive wins are Ayrton Senna (1991), Nigel Mansell (1992) and Michael Schumacher (1994 & 2004).
Mr. Rosberg recorded the widest winning margin in Shanghai’s 13-year history. At the chequered flag he was 37.776 secs ahead of Sebastian Vettel in his Ferrari.
Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat scored the 2nd podium of his career with 3rd place, Sebastian Vettel’s 2nd place gave the Ferrari star his 81st, the same number as Scuderia team mate Kimi Raikkonen, but in 73 less starts.
Daniel Ricciardo came in 4th place his 3 4th place finish to start Y 2016, this is the best start the Australian has ever made in a season.
Mercedes AMG’s Lewis Hamilton finished 7th, his lowest finish since he came 9th in the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix. Despite Mr. Hamilton’s podium streak being halted at 8 races, MercedesAMG got both of their cars home in the points for the 3rd race running, as did Williams, the only other team to get a 2X score in each Grand Prix in Y 2016. Ferrari achieved the feat for the 1st time this year at Shanghai.
Next up: Russia( 29 April – 1 May) a race dominated by Lewis Hamilton since its beginning in Y 2014.
The fans are asking: Can the Briton get his championship challenge back on track with a 3rd straight Sochi victory or will Mr. Rosberg extend both his winning streak and his now 36-point lead in the drivers’ standings?
These are the updated standings:
|3||DANIEL RICCIARDO||AUS||RED BULL RACING||36|
|7||DANIIL KVYAT||RUS||RED BULL RACING||21|
|9||MAX VERSTAPPEN||NED||TORO ROSSO||13|
|11||NICO HULKENBERG||GER||FORCE INDIA||6|
|12||CARLOS SAINZ||ESP||TORO ROSSO||4|
|15||SERGIO PEREZ||MEX||FORCE INDIA||0|
Stay tuned, and have a terrific week.
